Check Out These Oscar Nominated Movies Which Were Based on True Stories

Watching movies based on true stories is a great way to learn about real events while still being entertained. Let’s take a look at some of the best films based on real-life scenarios. These movies shine a light on real events and are also excellent films, as their award nominations show.

Catch Me if You Can

You can hardly go wrong with Steven Spielberg, and when you have a film starring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio, you know you are in for a great time. Add in the fascinating true story of a brilliant young conman, and you are in for a real treat. This movie is a ton of fun, full of charm, energy, and wit, but it is also an interesting character study. It is no surprise that the film received two Oscar nominations.

The Social Network

David Fincher’s masterpiece, written by Aaron Sorkin, tells the story of the origins of Facebook, which has come to be one of the most important stories in recent decades. As Facebook grew to become such a major part of our lives, we never even realized just how it happened, so this film is a great way to take a step back in time to watch how it all unfolded. It isn’t just a history lesson, though. It is top-notch entertainment, with crackling dialogue and characters that would still be compelling even if they were purely fictional. It won three Oscars out of a total of eight nominations.

BlacKkKlansman

The story of an African American and a Jew infiltrating the Ku Klux Klan sounds like the stuff of an inspired screenwriter, but this one is all true. This wild true story, which was brought to screen by the one and only Spike Lee, is a fascinating and highly entertaining watch, at once disturbing and also very funny. It received six nominations at the Oscars, winning for Best Adapted Screenplay.

The Wolf of Wall Street

Martin Scorsese never disappoints, and his film starring Leo as stockbroker Jordan Belfort is one of his finest works. With Jonah Hill and Margot Robbie as part of the excellent supporting cast, the film has us diving in headfirst into the crazy world of the crazy rich in an era of extreme excess. The film got five Oscar nominations.
