These Catchphrases From the 80's are Instantly Recognizable

Every era has its catchphrases that everyone knows, and the 1980s were full of these phrases that feel essential in our lives.

Let’s take a look at five of the top catchphrases from that glorious decade.

“Pardon Me, Do You Have Any Grey Poupon?”

Thanks to an incredibly clever ad where one passenger in a Rolls Royce asks this question to another passenger in another Rolls Royce, the fancy Dijon mustard brand became a household name in America.

It has been referenced constantly in every corner of pop culture, from sitcoms to rappers.

“I’ll Be Back”

Every great action movie has its great catchphrase, and the finest of the 80s may have been this one from The Terminator.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s delivery of the line in James Cameron’s classic ensured that it would be repeated for decades by people of all ages.

“Say Hello to My Little Friend”

Scarface is a delectable slice of 80s pop culture, and this line, which comes just before Tony Montana, played by a scenery-chewing Al Pacino, lets loose with a Tommy gun.

The glorious violence that follows is made all the bit more epic thanks to this catchphrase, which has been oft-repeated.

“I Pity the Fool”

Mr. T is one of the great pop cultural figures of the 1980s, and his signature line “I pity the fool” is one of the greats from that era.

Chances are you have used the line in your life, or at least had it play in your head in the presence of fools that you pity.

“Where’s the Beef?”

Wendy’s had this brilliant tagline which pointed out the small amounts of beef in their competitor’s hamburgers.

Since then, it has been widely used to express that something lacks substance.
